To keep up with the needs of customers and protect its leadership position, it was past time that BranchNet, LPL’s core account management service, was available on mobile. LPL wanted a mobile solution, and they wanted it fast—they wanted to demonstrate excitement and regain leadership at an Advisor conference five weeks away.

Our solution: An app built on social, mobile, analytics and the cloud.

Our team believed that migration to mobile was only part of the solution, and that for LPL Financial to support its leadership position, it would need to deliver a truly state-of-the-art tool—an app that incorporated the best of social, mobile analytics and the cloud (SMAC)— without trying to build in every bell and whistle.

Recognizing speed to market and ease of use were critical to the app’s success, our consultants developed a minimum viable product concept, one that would serve the most common needs of advisors on the road, and be available from multiple device platforms.   With functional requirements in place, we designed the app around the best use of SMAC:
  • Social: Financial research and market data available through Twitter, Facebook and YouTube feeds.
  • Mobile: A mobile hybrid design that took advantage of key features of both Apple and Android devices.
  • Analytics: App usage and performance metrics to guide continuous refinement.
  • Cloud: Stock data, financial headlines and market indices available in real-time from cloud sources.

The new app was immediately embraced by mobile-savvy advisors, who loved the ability to multi-task—interacting with social features while accessing cloud-based data and services.LPL is using the app’s built-in back-end analytic capabilities to monitor usage and make adjustments to data and the interface to better service their advisor customers.
